Can Syteca record user activity on multiple monitors?
Yes. The Syteca Client records user activity on every display connected to a Client computer, using the same recording pipeline for each display. No additional configuration is required for the multi-monitor case. For performance considerations when a Client computer has multiple high-resolution displays, and the volume of screen capture data becomes a bottleneck, review the Bandwidth Usage Reduction Parameters to lower the amount of data the Client generates and sends to the Application Server. Can I hide the Syteca Client from users?
Not by hiding the process. Syteca is not a spyware product and does not support hiding its running process from the operating system’s process list. Users with administrative access on a Client computer can see the Client service and its process by design. Yes, in a different sense: prevent tampering. Syteca can prevent the Client from being stopped or modified, even by administrative users, using the Protected Mode parameter. Protected Mode is the intended answer for “how do I prevent users from turning off monitoring.” On macOS specifically, a macOS Hidden Client package is available as a separate distribution. This installs the Client without visible UI indicators. Read that page for the scope and boundaries of the macOS Hidden Client. Can I notify users that their activity is being monitored?
Yes, using either or both of two mechanisms. Display an additional message on user login. A banner or notice appears when the user logs in to the monitored computer. Typically used to inform users of monitoring, corporate acceptable use policy, or relevant legal notices. See Enable the Additional Login Message for the configuration procedure. Show a system-tray icon indicating recording. A visible tray icon or on-screen icon during recording lets users see that the Client is active without a disruptive banner. See Recording Indicators (Tray Icon and On-Screen Icon) for the two icon options and how to configure them. Many organizations use both: a login banner for the legally binding notification, and the tray icon for ongoing visibility during the session. Can the user of a monitored computer change the results of Client monitoring?
No, when Protected Mode is enabled. The Protected Mode parameter prevents the Client user from:- Editing the Client log files.
- Modifying the recorded monitoring data on disk.
- Changing Client settings stored in the Windows Registry.
- Deleting the Client files or uninstalling the Client from the machine.
